About the Artist & Writer
For over forty years, Peter Fancy captured the rich history and beauty of Northern Ontario in his art and writing.
Born in Kirkland Lake and raised along the shores of Lake Temiskaming in the town of Haileybury, Peter remained passionate about this part of Northern Ontario and its mining past and people, that included his father, Harold Fancy. Mining shafts and miners feature largely in his early paintings. Peter also wrote numerous books and manuals that document the past lives of Northern Ontario towns and their people and businesses, particularly around Haileybury, Temiskaming Shores. This area is beautifully represented in many of Peter's oil paintings.
Peter also painted shorelines, structures and seasonal activities characteristic of Kempenfelt Bay and the surrounding area, where he lived with his wife, Betty Lou, for many years.
Peter Fancy is a graduate of Queen's University who enthusiastically taught English for over 30 years. His family, including children and grandchildren, gardening, painting, writing, and walks along the shores of Lake Temiskaming and Kempenfelt Bay were his joys.
